Palestine Gilliad Scott registered the Staple 6 brand in Hill County, Texas in 1855. The land he settled, 5o miles south of Fort Worth, was truly the wild West. Indian attacks occurred regularly and wild bison and bears could be found throughout Texas. With perseverance he farmed (possibly pecans) and raised cattle alongside his father as an early Texas settler. Today, the Staple 6 brand commemorates their efforts and the hardships many Texians encountered to create the Great State of Texas we enjoy today.

Palestine Gilliad Scott

Before the State of Texas existed as it does today, there was the Republic of Texas. And before the Republic, a Mexican Texas. The Scott family was at each of these junctures in history. Palestine's father, James William Scott, was among the first to join the fight at the Battle of Goliad in 1835, where he signed the Goliad Declaration of Independence. He was also at the Siege of Bexar. In early 1836, he fled his Washington County home as Santa Anna mercilessly marched to bring Texas back under Mexican control. James fought at the final Battle of San Jacinto where Santa Anna was captured and Texas gained its independence to become the Republic of Texas. He then joined the first militia of the Republic in Milam County, which later became known as the Texas Rangers.
